Distinguished and Famous people from Goulburn Mulwaree

🎬 George Lazenby

Actor George Lazenby was born in Goulburn in 1939. After working as a model, he became James Bond in On Her Majesty’s Secret Service, released in 1969. It was his sole appearance as Bond in the main film series, but an unusually conspicuous screen debut. His later acting work extended beyond that role, although the association with 007 remained central to his public profile. Goulburn supplies the birthplace connection in a career that took him from Australia to international modelling and film.

🏏 Bill O’Reilly

Bill O’Reilly travelled by train to Goulburn High School for two years before boarding at St Patrick’s College for another three. Teacher training and country appointments followed, alongside the development of a remarkable cricket career. His spin bowling challenged leading international batsmen, and he later became a forceful newspaper commentator on the game. The Goulburn connection is substantial schooling rather than a passing visit. Before the nickname “Tiger” became familiar to cricket crowds, there were train journeys, lessons and the practical task of completing an education away from the family home.
