Discover Journey to the Centre, an exhibition by artist Margie Fitzpatrick exploring the extraordinary landscapes of Central Australia and the Australian Alps through light, colour, memory and a deep connection to place.

🌄 An Artist's Journey

In 2014, I created the exhibition Journey to the Centre, inspired by my travels through Australia's incredible Red Centre. I was captivated by the immense open spaces, extraordinary light and profound sense of age within the landscape.

Moving through this mysterious country, I became aware of an essence that seemed to exist far beyond my own sense of time.

Returning to the desert in 2023, I ventured into remote landscapes, camping beneath vast skies and walking through gorges, riverbeds and sand dunes.

These experiences gave me time to absorb the atmosphere of the land, listening to the wilderness, drawing and simply being present. In that stillness, I felt something I wanted to explore and express through my art.

🏔️ From the Red Centre to the Mountains

This connection to the natural world is what draws me equally to mountains and deserts.

Kosciuszko, with its precious alpine landscapes, twisted windblown trees, richly coloured bark and misty mornings, shares something with the desert: a mysterious timelessness and vastness that suggests there is more to the landscape than the eye can see.

Light and colour moving across natural forms become a way of suggesting what cannot always be seen, but can be deeply felt, inviting imagination and reflection.

My art serves as an anchor, holding onto those fleeting moments of presence and reminding me of something more.

Through these works, I invite viewers to find their own space for reflection and consider what might exist beyond the visible.

After all, art is always in the eye of the beholder.
